Awareness of Voters

Eric H. Babcock

Abstract

This research is the culmination of a quest to investigate if the California State University, Monterey Bay Campus’ students and faculty have been giving thought about the upcoming 2008 General Election. The purpose was to gain a sense of if the CSUMB community was truly aware, or even cared, that they would have the opportunity to vote for the next President of the United States in the November General Election of next year.

What was discovered correlated strongly with that which I have read in previous literature stating that family tradition and ideology greatly influence the way voters think and will vote and that whether citizens vote regularly or not, they will display similar knowledge of current events based on the news sources that are utilized to remain current of popular domestic and international situations. Also, the news sources reported by respondents are chosen as a result of ones ideology backed by family tradition.
